Humane Handling

Humane Handling Training

Operations & Design

Having led the operations of a 60,000+ square foot facility, I understand the value of efficient designs that play a critical role in overall operational efficiencies and elimination of waste. Many people new to the industry overlook the essential "residual" areas of a production facility that can ultimately lead to the need for excess resources. Animal handling areas not only need to keep humane handling and animal welfare in mind, but also need to consider the limited human resources available to the industry. Many designs put out for the industry are optimizing animal welfare, but overlooking critical efficiencies necessary for limiting the need for additional handlers. My focus in handling designs for the small and very small plant industry is to optimize humane handling & animal welfare while minimizing the number of personnel needed to move and knock animals.

Food Safety & Regulatory

Having written and managed a facility with six HACCP plans, I have extensive experience with writing, implementing & managing plans from slaughter to ready-to-eat, shelf-stable processing. In addition, I have managed a food safety program that underwent numerous vendor audits (Target, Walmart, Whole Foods, Costco, etc.), SQF, SRM and Ground Beef e. coli addendums, etc. I have successfully navigated NRs, NR Appeals, Humane Handling Enforcement Actions, along with general discussions with USDA officials at all levels. Need help with heavy claim labels and label approvals? I've worked with pushing label approvals through the LSAS system as well! Do you have a general food safety or quality problem that you can't quite solve? I also have done complete facility reviews to evaluate where the source of problems may be coming from within an operation.
